Best Barcelona iphone apps
October 21st, 2010Iphone apps are increasingly becoming essential gear for travellers. Here is a list of some the best apps I’ve come across for Barcelona.
Lonely Planet Barcelona City Guide
The most visually attractive is probably the well-designed Top 10 Barcelona by Dorling Kindersley which includes hundreds of recommendations and photos with information on the city’s buildings, parks, churches, Gaudi and Picasso, restaurants and tapas bars, things to do with the kids and hotels. It features 3 large scale maps of central Barcelona, the old town and the metro, with pinpointers, and also includes search navigation, bookmarks and links to websites.
If you just want a map, check out the useful Barcelona Street Map
I would also recommend the complete wikipedia Encyclopedia app (no photos) which is my all-time favourite mobile application. Although it doesn’t have photos and is a bit clunky, it includes loads of information on Barcelona and Catalonia , along with thousands of articles on Spanish culture, history and politics – and on the rest of the world. Warning takes some time to download, but it’s worth it. Millions of articles from around the world without worrying about data roaming fees. I find it incredibly useful when queuing or sitting on the bus, or for resolving discussions in bars
