Mosquitoes in Britain

June 26th, 2009 | by lucy |

The British press has been reporting that swarms of mosquitoes are threatening to cross the Channel from France, where spraying is currently underway to control mass larva hatching.

Thirty three species of mosquitoes are recorded for Britain, although a quarter of them do not bite humans, instead feeding on the blood of animals or birds.

Mosquitoes are set to thrive in Britain as climate change brings milder winters and hotter, wetter summers.  Every summer the dreaded Asian Tiger Mosquito is expected to arrive, but has not been identified so far.
