Cortijo Matacaliente is in Jerez de la Frontera, the capital of wine, flamenco and fighting bulls. It is wonderfully set in a completely rural environment but very close to Cadiz 's magnificent beaches and the famous "white villages route" (Los Alcornocales and Sierra de Grazalema Natural Parks).
The cortijo has been rebuilt following bioclimatic criteria and is powered to a large extent by solar energy, which is used for water heating. There are six apartments which have been decorated in traditional Andalusian architecture, with vaulted ceilings, spacious rooms and screened lighting. All have a separate bathroom, kitchen and a porch with its own shade. The decor, with natural materials and a minimalist style, helps to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The cottages are surrounded by grounds of 60,000 m2, a third of which is covered in a Mediterranean and tropical-type garden and a swimming-pool. Much of the rest is used for farming: olive trees, grass for our horse ( Chico ), and an organic vegetable garden where we grow vegetable and fruit.
The centre of the cortijo has a spacious lounge full of light (El Chozo), with a thatched roof. This 55 m2 part has a reading area, kitchen and a large dining room. It is the meeting place of the house.
Garden
The garden covers 20,000 m2, with various environments: tropical garden, with more than 500 palm trees and coconut palms, and Mediterranean-type garden, which has preserved the native flora, with olives, lemon, jasmine.
The swimming pool is at the centre of the garden, and is an "alberca" type pool with natural water purification by decanting in the old way.
