Extremoduro are one of the most popular bands of the Spanish rock scene. Their name is a none-too-subtle pun on their homeland of Extremadura, Extremoduro meaning “hard extreme”. Like many Spanish groups of born in the 1980s, they have a rough hard rock sound with punk-like vocals. Lead singer Iniesta’s lyrics are full of allusions to drugs, love, self-destruction and his much loved and hated Extremadura. Having seen Extremoduro live (barely) in 1995, I am pleased to hear that they have cleaned up somewhat their bodies.
My favourite album is their first album, Rock Transgresivo, originally released in 1989. Here below the absolute classic Extremaydura. with the indomitable line:
….Desde que tú no me quieres yo quiero a los animales y al animal que más quiero es al buitre carroñero, es al buitre carroñero.
Desde que tú no me quieres yo todos los días me muero y alimento con mi carne, en Monfragüe, buitres negros en Monfragüe, buitres negros
