Plateresque (Plateresco in Spanish), meaning “in the manner of a silversmith” refers to the 15th and 16th century Spanish art and architecture form, characterized by its richly ornate style. The style involves intricate and minutely detailed relief (twisted columns, heraldic escutcheons, and sinuous scrolls) generally applied to the surface of buildings to gain an extravagantly decorative effect.

The first phase is known as the Isabelline style because it flourished during the reign of Isabella I, lasted from about 1480 to about 1540.
