Rumba catalana is a style of rumba created by Barcelonan gypsies in the late 1950s, the most famous exponent of which is probably Peret. Rumba catalana blended flamenco and Afro-Cuban music to form a new form of urban dance music, and whatever flamenco purists might say Catalan rumba is often great fun. Much of the music recorded by the Gypsy Kings and Los Manolos was rumba catalana. The style has enjoyed a revival with an influence on modern groups such as Ojos de Brujo.
