Las Hoces de Rio Piedra

Not far from Gallocanta, Las Hoces de Rio Piedra is a delightful verdant gorge running through the sparse uplands of southern Aragón near the Castilla-La Mancha border. Griffon vultures soar above the canyon. There are good places to eat and stay in the nearby medieval town of Daroca. The word hoz (pl. hoces) is a common term across the Meseta for gorge or ravine, often cut along fractures deep into the bedrock.
