Matarranya river

According to a recent scientific study, the River Matarranya, a tributary of the Ebro, is considered one of the most ecologically pristine watercourses in the entire Mediterranean basin. The river gives its name to the county of Matarranya, a land of almonds and ancient olive trees.

The most spectacular stretch of the river is along the Parrizal gorge which cuts through the limestone massif forming a series of canyons, cascades and pools. The route (12km there and back), partially along wooden walkways, is among the most beautiful anywhere in the Iberian Peninsula. Parking must be booked on popular days
