Lovely Leonese mastiff I came across a few years ago in Zamora, close to the Portuguese border, used to protect a huge flock of sheep against wolves. Note the “carlanca”, the spiked collar worn around his neck to protect against wolf bites. The shepherd told me how he was brought up since a puppy among sheep to imprint him as one of the flock.
