I met this friendly blackbird this morning in Barcelona’s Santa Catarina neighbourhood. Mirlo in Spanish, Merla in Catalan.

My books

My second book Travels around the Spanish Civl War is published by Hurst. Details here

"A genuinely engrossing … highly informed road trip … [local] testimony combined with Lloyd’s research, shows that the physical and psychological scars of the civil war are still raw.’ — TLS

‘A fascinating mixture of travelogue, micro-history and reflection.’ — Literary Review

‘Truly original and, at the same time, compellingly readable. It is a real treat to be taken around Spain today in search of memories of the war by a guide as invariably knowledgeable and hawk-eyed, as funny and as sensitive, as Nick Lloyd.’ — Paul Preston
