Great tits hunt bats in Hungary
We’re used to them hanging off bird feeders and picking off insects. So it’s a shock to read the reports from Hungary that Great tits have been observed entering a cave to kill roosting bats. However, when offered standard bird-table fare of sunflower seeds and bacon fat, the Great tits left the Pipistrelle bats alone, suggesting this behaviour was a response to particularly hard winter conditions.
